March 2025
On the 16th of March 2025 the container finally reached its home here at Tsimoka!
The container now serves as a temporary garage for the digger. We had two volunteers from Germany teaching our staff basic maneuvers and safety precautions about the digger. It will be an invaluable tool for for digging foundations for houses, irrigation and wells – things that up until now had to be done by hand.
Most of the solar panels have now been installed on the roof of our building. They will provide electricity for the school and for our staff.
February 2025
In February 2025 the container arrived in the port in Eastern Madagascar and had to go through customs. This turned out to be a lengthy process of several weeks, which resulted in increased storage costs for the container.
December 2024
Both the digger and the solar panels, as well was many boxes with clothes, toys, books etc. were packed into a container and shipped from Basel on the 16th of December 2024. After arriving in Belgium, the container then started its long journey by ship to Eastern Madagascar.
September 2024
In the summer of 2024, we were able to acquire a digger through Swiss friends of ours. They agreed to pay the cost in advance and Tsimoka would pay them back within one year. Additionally, we bought solar panels for our main building in Madagascar.
The fundraising campaign with the goal of 33’000 CHF started in September 2024.
