Chiara’s stay at Tsimoka

In the fall of 2022 I joined the Tsimoka team for six weeks to support their newly pioneered primary school. Together with a local teacher and a translator we worked towards better skills in reading and writing, maths, and did handicrafts. I regularly saw the children grow, not just in their writing skills, but also in their self-confidence. I remember one very shy girl, who never wanted to be the focus of attention at the beginning of my stay. During the last dance time she happily led all the other children in great dance moves. Another sprout has come up!

From the first moment I turned off the main road onto the red road leading to the project site I was amazed at the beautiful view.

Looking towards the horizon there are hills upon hills with little settlements, vast pastures of grass, some bushes, and occasional trees. Aside from the stunning flora and fauna (yes, there are chameleons!) the beauty in the school kids faces as they waited patiently for class to start was so precious.

Tsimoka isn’t just another organization. It is a big family made up of people who live relationships intentionally. It was such a privilege to be welcomed into this international family with people from so many different backgrounds, nationalities and ages, each bringing their unique flavor to the team.

I look back with gratefulness and wonder at the time with the Tsimoka team. Thank you all for welcoming me into your family!
